METEOROLOGIST JEFF HABY explains the meaning behind this expression. "SUMMARY: If you can see the sunrise but the west part of the sky is dark: look out for approaching bad weather. If you can see the sunset: the weather conditions will be nice."

In North America, this expression is:

In the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland:

"Red sky at night, shepherd's delight,
